Description/Job Summary

AgChoice Farm Credit is currently recruiting for a marketing intern for the summer of 2021.  Sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for the internship.  The program is a paid, 12 week opportunity.  The candidate will work out of our Headquarters office in Mechanicsburg, PA.


  1. Learn about the Farm Credit System and our mission
  2. Experience AgChoice job roles through shadowing
  3. Visit and contact AgChoice customer-owners
  4. Understand the collaborative relationship between AgChoice’s marketing department, AgChoice’s sales team and AgFirst Bank
  5. Become familiar with AgChoice’s Knowledge Center program, audience and objectives
  6. Initiate, manage and complete several projects specific to marketing and the Knowledge Center
  7. Represent AgChoice by planning and participating in customer events
12 Week Summer Internship:
Branch, Appraisal and BMS                          1 week
Processing & Underwriting                          1 week
Marketing & Knowledge Center                 10 weeks
Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand marketing’s support role to the sales team
  2. Review all marketing tools and publications available to the department
  3. Learn about project management as it relates to our relationship with the AgFirst Bank and our staff
  4. Experience CRM, our database management system, and Click Dimensions, our email software through CRM, by working on projects within the platform
  5. Interview customers and write feature stories for AgChoice publications
  6. Help manage customer events across the territory including social media promotion and news releases
  7. Complete AgChoice website refresh research project
    • Audit and review other Farm Credit websites
    • Recommend features for a new AgChoice website customer portal, including immediate, actionable changes
    • Present findings and recommendations to SLT
    • Gain market research, product analysis, project management and business presentation skills
  8. Assist with new customer testimonial videos
  9. Pilot a loan officer social media video program(DIY topics, expert knowledge sharing)
  10. Audit AgChoice social media and provide recommendations
Knowledge Center
  1. Understand the role of the Knowledge Center within AgChoice
  2. Help coordinate customer education events across territory including recruitment/promotion and material preparation
  3. Work with AgChoice staff to write and/or edit educational blog posts
  4. Audit the AgBiz Basics high school pilot program and make recommendations / plans for fall launch plan
  5. Review external opportunities to assess industry programs for SmartStart credits
  6. Help with AgBiz Masters recruitment efforts including social media, mailings and email blast
  1. Learn the major segments of our business:
    • Commercial Agriculture
    • Home & Land Loans
    • Capital Markets
  2. Review loan application documentation such as:
    • Balance sheets and financial statements
    • Credit reports
    • Tax returns and common schedules
    • Real estate and personal property ppraisals
  3. Understand the different methods of valuing collateral
  4. Shadow an appraiser for property inspection and report process
  5. Go on farm visits for sales calls with loan officers
  6. Work with the branch sales team to see loans at application, analysis, processing and closing
  7. Learn how financial specialists support branch sales efforts and manage post-close loan servicing
  1. Learn the essential functions of the processing team:
    • Loan file documentation
    • Closing preparation and booking
    • Post-close maintenance
      • Lien perfection
      • Manual billing
      • Digital scanning and filing
  2. Understand the main differences between consumer and non-consumer loans and compliance triggers
  1. Review AgChoice credit philosophy and underwriting guidelines
  2. Learn Farm Credit scope of financing and eligibility
  3. Understand credit analyst role
  4. Work with analysts to manage requests, underwrite them and help the branch to move them to processing

Business Management Services
  1. Understand the purpose of BMS-ART and the functions of consultants, crop insurance specialists, accountants and support staff with respect to credit operations
  2. Learn the importance of planning processes, including business, financial and strategic
  3. Work with BMS-ART staff on sales strategies and account maintenance
