Description/Job Summary

AgChoice Farm Credit is recruiting for an Agricultural Business Consultant to service accounts from one of our Central PA offices.  The primary market served by this position is central and southern Pennsylvania. This Consultant will work collaboratively with Loan Officers from our Chambersburg, York, Martinsburg, and Lewistown branch offices to identify potential customers with needs for the services listed below, and with other members of our Consultant Team to develop consistent, efficient, high quality services and products. The individual will work independently to deliver the services, develop strong working relationship with our customers, and achieve growth budgets in the territory.

Services Provided
  • Business Planning Services
    • Standardized simple business plans (entry level or first business plan)
    • Custom design plans for more sophisticated clients.
  • Farm Transition/Succession - Facilitates transition and succession planning meetings, provides business analysis, and collaborates with other professionals as needed.
  • Team Facilitation - Paid leadership role for team facilitation or Business Profit Teams.
  • Controller/CFO support services using records systems, Profit Analyzer and Benchmark programs (dairy, winery, etc.).
  • Partial budgeting services - Business productivity, expansion, formation or dissolution models
  • Productivity and profitability tracking systems and services; offer guidance to help clients improve productivity.
  • Risk Assessment and Management
  • Marketing and Retail Plans and Strategies
    • Market price risk management planning
    • Suggested best practice methods to market a farm’s goods/products
    • Suggested best practices in retailing that will expedite the profitable turn in inventory and other hard goods.
  • Human Resource Management
    • Provide assistance developing work processes, protocols, training, and supervisory systems. Assist families and management teams in conflict to improve performance. Develop and assist with employee recruiting systems, communications, position descriptions and performance evaluation, incentives and motivational techniques.

 Marketing and Sales

  • Establishes marketing/business development strategies and plans, collaborates with Branch Sales Managers, Loan Officers and other Business Services staff.
  • Carries out direct sales of services to highly eligible prospects
  • Cross sells appropriate AgChoice products by referring leads to other personnel including: credit, accounting and tax services, crop insurance, appraisal services, leasing, etc.
  • Consistent networking with staff and outside professionals to obtain contacts and prospect referrals.
  • Provides public seminar support through AgChoice’s Knowledge Center through external venues to build our Consulting brand and demonstrate knowledge and expertise.
Reporting and Continuing Education
  • Completes required progress reports.
  • Continuing education requirements are met or exceeded. 
  • Tracks professional time for accurate client billing
  • Participates in branch staff and sales meetings, and Consultant/BMS Team meetings. 
Requirements
  1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or Finance.
  2. In-depth knowledge of agriculture required.
  3. Eight years of professional experience serving agriculture, with finance, credit, business management and customer relationship experience preferred.
  4. Strong analytical, judgment and communication skills.
  5. Problem solving skills and ability to work in a team atmosphere.
  6. Ability to quickly build strong, trusting relationships with customers and team members.
  7. Awareness of current economic developments and business trends affecting agricultural industries in the region.
  8. Strong leadership skills
  9. It is preferred that the applicant live within Franklin, Cumberland, York, Adams, Centre, Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, Mifflin or Juniata counties in Pennsylvania.

Required Qualifications

  1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or Finance.

  2. In-depth knowledge of agriculture required.

  3. Eight years of professional experience serving agriculture, with finance, credit, business management and customer relationship experience preferred.

  4. Strong analytical, judgment and communication skills.

  5. Problem solving skills and ability to work in a team atmosphere.

  6. Ability to quickly build strong, trusting relationships with customers and team members.

  7. Awareness of current economic developments and business trends affecting agricultural industries in the region.

  8. Strong knowledge of relevant computer software and web application

  9. It is preferred that the applicant live within Centre, Snyder, Union or Northumberland Counties in Pennsylvania.
